So good to see a blog about travelling or holidaying with families. We are a famil of five travelling in South America and we have found very little if anything out there geared towards families – not just in Bolivia but travel sites in general. I think more and more families will be travelling – come on travel industry wise up! Antonietta

If you’re looking for a getaway that offers more than just leisure; you might want to consider volunteering while on your holidays. Or better yet, volunteer so that you’ll have a good holiday – for free.

Volunteering during vacations is one of the fastest growing travel packages. This type of package is offered by hotels and by non-profit organizations. From local tours in the south to international travel to Africa or in Thailand, tourists can always find a package with a mission that’s close to their heart. It’s just a matter of finding it.

US based hotels are offering this type of package to tourists. There are also times wherein they invite their loyal guests to their hotels for volunteer travels for free. Hotels are usually offering volunteer trips related to the environment. If there’s a nearby chain in the area, the hotel will most likely offer the tour wit accommodation for free.

Non-profit organizations are also offering volunteering experience for a few days. Aside from local sites, they also have tie-ups to different international organizations which enable them to offer this type of experience to other countries.

If you’re being asked for a fee to volunteer, never hesitate to ask how much of the fee will go directly to the community. Sometimes organizations will just extract money from the volunteers and keep it for profit instead of giving it to the community. To be safe, work with well known non-profit organizations so that you can give back to the community without being ripped-off.
