Before you complete your booking, your travel agent will usually ask you if you need travel insurance. You could accept his offer or have the option to decline and select your own travel insurance later. Before you go out and purchase travel insurance, here are some factors that you should look for in an insurance company.
International and local coverage – if you are traveling outside the country, make sure that they provide coverage in your preferred destination. There are small travel insurance companies that might sell you local coverage for an international travel.
Medical Conditions
Pre-existing conditions – transaction with a travel insurance company could take virtually minutes if you just say “yes”. But watch out for the pre-existing conditions. It could be possible that some ailments while on travel and pre-existing conditions will bar you from enjoying the travel insurance.
Cancellation Fees
Cancellation and change coverage – travel insurance is usually applicable for accidents and illnesses that happened during the travel. But look for companies who will provide you coverage even for cancellation and change without any pre-existing conditions. This could be a little bit expensive but if you are not sure of your travel plans, this might be perfect for you.
The need for travel insurance – there might even be a time that you don’t really need travel insurance. If you are a domestic traveler, one-way and you have confirmed your entire schedule, travel insurance is not necessary. Companies just want you to be paranoid a little bit so that you will purchase travel insurance.
