Tunis is the capital of Tunisia, situated in the Gulf of Tunis next to the Mediterranean Sea. The area famous for its warm summers and Mediterranean climate is the perfect way to relax for a short break.

The city is home to many great pieces of architecture including the Cathedral of St. Vincent de Paul and the Al-Zaytuna Mosque, perfect ways for you to explore history without paying a pound.

Another must see area for historians is the famous Medina, an old section of the city that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Exploring the area feels like a time warp with many buildings from centuries before and a classic market for you to explore.

If you love museums, the Bardo Museum in the capital should be your number one stop. The venue contains many great pieces including the largest collection of Roman antiques outside of Greece. The nearby ruins of Carthage are also a great site containing the remains of a once prosperous Roman Town.

If you are more interested in sports and have a little extra money try visiting one of the cities three football club grounds and if you’re lucky they may even be playing at home.

The area has a great cuisine that can be easy on the pocket. It includes Mediterranean spices and some French influences that create great flavoured dishes. For those want a little less spice in their meal try the national dish of couscous, it’s a wheat based snack that can be eaten on its own or as a side to a main meal.
