Charles St. Jail Hotel: Remarkable Hotels

Would you want to be staying in a hotel that was a former jail? Many men had been walking around the halls in this hotel with handcuffs on and waiting for the day that they will walk free once again. Who would have thought back then that this dreaded place where overcrowded prisoners stayed would eventually become a luxury hotel after over a hundred years?

The Charles Street Jail was completed back in 1851 and in 1973 it was already overcrowded and had to close down but it was only in 1990 that it finally closed. After 17 years, this jail had finally reopened but not as a jail anymore but as a luxury hotel with 300 rooms and suites.

As ironic as it may seem, considering it really is ironic that a prison cell without any form of luxury had reemerged into a place full of luxury, is named The Liberty Hotel.

The Liberty Hotel had received several awards over the 2 years that it had opened. It was named as the best new business hotel as well as the 2008 Editor’s Choice and so much more. With the number of awards it gathered in such a short time only means that it’s really a luxurious and very rewarding hotel to stay in.

Enjoy the view of Boston right in your own hotel room or suites and just enjoy the rich history of the building’s past and enjoy the feeling that you are actually staying in a former jail
