Mosaic Holidays: attractions in North Cyprus

The city of Famagusta is one of the most interesting places to visit in North Cyprus. Its history, structures and natural beauty is too good to be ignored and Famagusta offers something unique for every tourist.

Famagusta is a small city which means tourists should be able to walk from one attraction to another. Taxis are highly recommended for those who do not want to rent a car. Tourists don’t have to spend much in getting to interesting tourist spots.

Like most of the popular cities in Cyprus, Famagusta has many beaches for tourists and locals to enjoy. But for those who want more, the old city is highly recommended. Although the place has suffered decay throughout time, fortifications from 16th century are still here and the culture vultures visiting Famagusta should see The Cathedral of St. Nicholas or The Church of St. George which is also a popular tourist attraction known for its frescoes.

Famagusta is also well known because of its fortified district Varosha. Sealed off from anyone (including journalists) by the Turks since 1974, the place can still be seen from the beach. The place was practically frozen in time and nature is reclaiming the area – plants conquered the walls and pavements.
