The small community of Montreuil can be found in the eastern side of Paris. It’s a bustling suburb of the city but part of it is also dedicated for locals and guests who want to stay near Paris but seeks a more
affordable accommodation. It’s just a few miles from the popular tourist destinations so tourists don’t have to spend too much time on the road by simply enjoying a city break in Montreuil.
Montreuil is more than just a suburb in the great city of Paris. It was part of the area protected by the Royal Family known as the Peach Walls – referring to the peach trees planted in the area to serve the
Royal Family.
The best thing about Montreuil is its location not only in the most popular destinations in Paris but also close to a well known park called Bois de Vincennes.
Named after the town of Vincennes, it’s well known for its impessive size (more than nine square kilometers) and the magnificent Château de Vincennes. The castle is located in the Northern end of the park. It’s historically significant as it was extensively used during the 14th century as the alternative residence of the Royal Family.
Montreuil also has a part in modern arts. The state school in Montreuil was decorated with ceramics
and frescoes. The decoration was made in 1954 by a well known French painter Maurice Boitel. The
frescoes were titled “Voltaire” in reference to the pen name of the popular philosopher.
