Faroe Islands await discovery

Leitisvatn lake and Bosdalafossur waterfall on Vagar island aerial view, Faroe Islands

Located between Norway and Iceland, the Faroe Islands maybe one of the most interesting tourist destinations in the world. This Danish territory offers a unique experience to travellers because of its unique geographical setting. The natural beauty of the islands is also stunning as the locals have practically kept the islands in their original form.

The easiest way to go to Faroe is by plane and you’ll be arriving in the island of Vagar where the sole airport is located. Traveling through islands is very easy because of the bridges as well as sub sea tunnels. Car rentals are available and could be used to access the different islands.

Tourists often visit Faroe Islands to experience their unique culture as well as the natural surrounding. The islands are home to millions of seabirds and sheep could be seen from almost anywhere. It is estimated that there are close to 70,000 sheep scattered in the islands while there are only 50,000 residents in Faroe.

Everything is different in Faroe. They have their own type of food, language and even currency (although they still use Danish coins). Even the sunlight is unique in Faroe Islands – the sun sets several times at night which means twilight could be experienced. Every winter, the islands don’t experience complete darkness but only limited hours of sunlight.

The best time to visit Faroe Islands is from May to September. During these months, temperature is consistent so you don’t have to bring a lot of clothing. The islands are very safe as crimes against tourists are rare and traffic is not even a problem in any time of the day.
